The Forge
Welcome to the Forest – The Forge
The Forge is an architectural retreat unlike anything else. Within the forest, but still with magificent views over the sea, the bedroom cabin is built directly into a massive stone, enclosed by glass on all sides. Here, nature is not a backdrop, but part of the space itself. You fall asleep to the quiet sounds of the forest, resting on a luxurious mattress designed for deep, uninterrupted sleep.
Five-meter-high windows rise above the bed, opening the room to the night sky. On clear evenings, the northern lights and the Milky Way become a living ceiling, while the surrounding Scandinavian design remains calm, minimal, and intentionally restrained — allowing nature to take the lead.
One entire interior wall is formed by the stone itself. More than 400 million years ago, during the Devonian period, small river stones were fused by immense pressure into what is known as conglomerate — a geological signature of this region. Carried here by glacial forces during the last Ice Age some 10,000 years ago, the stone now rests at Lofnes. Sitting barefoot on heated floors, touching its smooth, ancient surface, creates a powerful contrast between raw nature and modern comfort.
The Forge (or smie in Norwegian) takes its name from our ancestors forge that once stood on this very spot. The original anvil remains, and subtle marks in the stone bear traces of fire, iron, and human labor — a quiet reminder of generations who worked here long before this place became a retreat.

The Forge
The Forge is an architectural masterpiece unlike anything else. Within the forest, but still with views over the sea, the bedroom cabin is built directly into a massive stone, enclosed by glass on all sides. A few steps away, your luxurious appartment makes this exclusive retreat absolutely complete.
Where to Stay and How to Live
In addition to the 12 m² forest bedroom cabin (The Forge), your accommodation includes an exclusive private apartment offering a rare level of comfort and refinement in such a secluded setting. The apartment is located on the ground floor of the farm’s main house and has its own private entrance. With forest, open fields, and old apple trees just outside your door, a short walk of 25 meters along natural paths and 41 stone steps connects the apartment to the bedroom cabin.
The apartment features a spacious living room with a fireplace, a modern, well-equipped kitchen, and a dining area — all enjoying expansive views of the sea and surrounding mountains. The private bathroom offers a true spa atmosphere with a waterfall shower, while the generous entrance hall is filled with light from multiple windows overlooking a lush, carefully kept garden reminiscent of the English countryside.
The Forge accommodates two guests. For groups of up to four, or for those who prefer two separate bedrooms, the apartment offers an additional bedroom with a queen-size bed, available upon request.
Originally built in 1948, the house and apartment were completely reconstructed between 2023 and 2025. This allowed for a thoughtful blend of modern, high-quality materials and selected elements of the original structure. The result is a space that feels both contemporary and grounded in history — a design that continues to inspire many of our guests.

Outdoor area
Although you are staying on our charming countryside farm, every detail has been carefully planned to ensure privacy and a sense of seclusion.
The terrace is beautifully positioned halfway between the bedroom cabin and the apartment, offering striking views of the sea and surrounding mountains. Here, you can enjoy unhurried breakfasts in the morning sun, surrounded by silence and open landscape. Lounge chairs are placed in the garden just outside the bedroom cabin, facing the iconic Mount Hornelen, while a fire pit nearby creates a warm and inviting setting for long evenings by the fire.
The barn, built in 1921, is open to all guests. This is where you collect firewood, and on rainy days it becomes a perfect shelter — a dry, cozy place to sit wrapped in blankets, doors open, listening to raindrops drumming softly on the metal roof. Simple, peaceful, and deeply relaxing.
Forest Bathtubs
Hidden and completely private behind the bedroom cabin, two antique bathtubs rest beneath the trees and the open sky. Filled with steaming hot water, they invite slow, unhurried moments under the stars, surrounded by forest silence and night air. Step gently from the warmth of the bath and straight into your bedroom, wrapped in calm, intimacy, and comfort.
