About us
Lofnes is a small settlement in the Bremanger municipality on the western coast of Norway. There are in fact no other places in Norway called Lofnes, and we also carry our surname after the place. Currently there are less than 100 people in Norway named Lofnes, making it a protected surname by law.
It is documented that our ancestors lived on the property in the 17th century. With the rich fisheries in the Lofnes fjord and the warm, sunny southern exposure suitable for grazing sheep and cattle, it can be assumed that our family line on this place goes back to the Middle Ages and beyond. Regardless of nature’s extreme beauty and the fjord’s historically endless bounty of herring and cod, the centuries were dominated by hardship, wars, harsh winters, storms, and wet, cold summers. The entire Lofnes family saga is available in the accommodation, adding depth to the experience of staying here at Lofnes.

Coming Home and Welcoming Guests
In 2021, we — Gunnhild and Steffen — moved back to Steffen’s birthplace after more than 30 years living in Bergen, a big city by Norwegian standards. After the children moved out, the dream of a quiet life close to nature, spending more time outdoors, and developing the potential of the property made returning “home” an easy choice.
Steffen is a marine biologist and still works in the energy industry, while Gunnhild is a preschool teacher. We are adventurers at heart and have spent years backpacking around the globe, including several years living in the United States. Through our family-run company, Hornelen Panorama, we now welcome guests and travelers from all over the world to Lofnes.
We live in the main house on the property, and as your hosts we are always available if you need help or would like tips and recommendations about the area. Don’t miss our “off the beaten track” advice, which can make your visit even more memorable. As we also cultivate our fields and forests and catch our dinner in the fjord, you may see us around the property during your stay.
